About this puzzle

Big, bold letters and fewer, longer words: an easier-on-the-eyes halloween word search. Jack-o’-lanterns, costumes and a bag full of candy. A Halloween word search that is spooky enough to be fun but never scary, so it works for a second-grade party and for grown-ups on the hard setting.

The large print edition uses an 11×11 grid that fills a letter-size page, and words only run across, down or diagonally down.

All 20 words in this theme: Pumpkin, Costume, Witch, Ghost, Skeleton, Vampire, Mummy, Zombie, Candy, Treat, Trick, Lantern, Broomstick, Cauldron, Spider, Cobweb, Haunted, October, Werewolf, Moonlight.

Talk about it

Questions to share while solving, for activity groups, memory care or a visit with family:

  • What was the best costume you ever wore, and who made it?
  • Did you go trick-or-treating, and what treat did you hope for most?
  • Did your family carve pumpkins? Who did the carving?
  • What was your favorite scary story or movie?
  • What candy do you still associate with Halloween?

Activity tip: Set out a small bowl of wrapped candy as prizes and read one finished word aloud each time someone circles it, so slower solvers can keep up.

Questions

How big are the letters?

The grid fills most of a letter-size page, with letters about one and a half times the size of a regular (Medium) word search, and the word list is printed in large type too.

Are these suitable for memory care or activity groups?

Yes. Words only run left to right, top to bottom or diagonally down, so the puzzles are relaxing rather than tricky. Print as many copies as your group needs.

Is there a harder version?

Every theme also has a regular print edition with Easy, Medium and Hard levels.
